What the add-in reads

Selection Presence reads the current contiguous selection in Microsoft Excel, bounded to 12 rows by 8 columns, plus a 3-by-3 nearby-label window. It also reads the workbook and worksheet identity needed to reject stale or mismatched context. The add-in is read-only: it does not write, format, calculate, select, activate, or save workbook content.

Where workbook data goes

Workbook selection data is sent only over trusted HTTPS to the companion service bound to localhost on the same device. The public web host serves the add-in’s static HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and image files. It does not receive or store workbook selections, formulas, values, workbook names, document paths, or the private local capability token.

Local authentication and retention

The companion creates a high-entropy capability token in the signed-in operating-system user’s private application directory. A public add-in runtime can obtain that token only from the loopback service when its exact HTTPS origin is allowlisted. The token is never embedded in public assets. The companion stores the latest bounded presence snapshot locally and rejects it when stale or paired to a different workbook identity.

Web-host operational data

The hosting provider may process ordinary web-request metadata, such as IP address, user agent, requested asset, timestamp, and security logs, to deliver and protect the static site. Selection Presence does not use advertising trackers, analytics cookies, or a remote workbook-data database.

Your controls

You can stop collection by hiding or removing the add-in, stopping the companion service, or uninstalling the companion. The uninstall workflow archives the local installation and state for recoverability; the user can delete that archive when it is no longer needed.
